被験者163名に目標を書かせた上で、そのうちの半数だけにその内容を公表させ、その後、45分間与えて、目標に向けて取り組ませました。すると、目標を公表しなかった被験者たちは、45分間じっくり取り組んだ上で、これが終わったあとも「目標達成のためには、自分にはまだまだやることがある」と述べたのに対して、目標を公表した人々は平均33分で取り組みを止めてしまい、「目標にはほぼ近づいた」という感想を持ったとか。
